Adagio Health's Dietetic Internship is an intensive, community-based
program providing instruction and supervised experience in all areas
of dietary practice. It provides dietetic professionals with an opportunity
to increase their knowledge of food and nutrition science and to acquire
the competencies needed to practice dietetics in both traditional and
community settings. Upon successful completion of the program, each
intern will receive a Verification of Completion Certificate and be
registration eligible.
First recognized as an Approved Pre-Professional Practice Program
(AP4) by the American Dietetic Association in August 1991, the Adagio
Health dietetic internship received full accreditation in July 1997.
The internship provides a minimum of 1200 hours of practice experience,
as well as approximately 600 hours of didactics. The internship is
administered by Adagio Health faculty and supervised by registered
dietitians at affiliated sites throughout the Pittsburgh area.
Designed to emphasize community-based experiences, the internship
has the primary goal of preparing dietetic professionals to practice
in community-based nutrition programs and to use community resources
effectively.
Adagio Health's Dietetic Internship exposes the intern to a variety
of sites within each area of practice. Working with their mentors,
interns are able to focus on programs of study that are tailored to
their own backgrounds and professional interests.
The minimum 1200 hours of practice experience required by the American Dietetic
Association can be completed on a full-time basis (40 hours per week) in 9 months.
